Purl
Nursery white noise
You’re up at three again.
Let this part be easy.
Purl is a white-noise app for a nursery — dark, one-handed, entirely offline. Sixteen sounds that loop without a seam, a sleep timer that fades instead of cutting, and nothing that ever leaves your phone.

Hear it
Four of them play right here.
Headphones or a laptop speaker won’t do them justice, but the seam is the point: let one run past its loop and listen for the join. There isn’t one.

Why it costs money
Every sound in Purl was written, not recorded.
-
01
No seam, by construction
A recorded loop clicks where it joins. Purl renders one crossfade longer than the loop, then folds the tail back over the head — so the file has no join to hear.
-
02
Uncompressed, so it doesn’t tick
Compressed audio carries encoder delay and padding, which is exactly what makes a looped file tick every twelve seconds. Purl ships plain 16-bit WAV instead.
-
03
Levelled the way a phone hears
A phone speaker radiates almost nothing below 500 Hz, so every sound is matched by A-weighted loudness. None of them arrives twice as loud as the last at 3am.
Built for the hour you are awake at
-
A timer that fades
The sleep timer ramps down to silence over a minute instead of cutting out, so the end of it does not wake anyone.
-
Blend two sounds
Rain under a fan, or a heartbeat under the womb. One slider balances the pair.
-
Record your own
Your shush, your hum, your lullaby, looped like the rest. The file never leaves the phone.
-
Plays with the screen locked
Background playback on both platforms, so you can put the phone face down and leave the room.
-
Dims to almost nothing
The screen fades to near-black after eight seconds. Tap it to bring it back.
-
Speaks five languages
English, Portuguese, Spanish, French and German, chosen from your phone’s own preference list.
Nothing leaves the phone
No account. No analytics. No server.
Purl makes no network requests in normal use, because everything it plays is already inside the app. There is no server to send anything to.
